What have I been upto?
Last week saw me attend the Newton-le-Willows beer festival on Thursday, and for only the second time since I started drinking again, I was hungover. This lead to me being very delicate on the Friday – thankfully I had a quiet Friday. But it was good see everybody again.
I blew away the final part of the hangover at the Tawd Valley Parkrun, probably one of those parkruns I hate because it’s a tricky course, but also love because my goodness it’s beautiful. I took a minute off my course PB, which was nice.
I also did a bit of work (now my super secret Pico 8 Project was delivered) working on my previous game. I got a points and live scoring system working too. Nice.
The rest of the weekend was spent at Fern’s and with her family.
What I have been enjoying?
I went to see on Sunday the Super Mario Galaxy Movie. I was dreading it as the reviews weren’t exactly great, but once it got going (I felt the first 45 minutes was a bit formulaic), I enjoyed it. Perfect Sunday morning entertainment and had a few little nice touches that had this 42 year old fan of the franchise guffawing.
I can see how they are going to eventually tie up everything into a “Super Smash Bros” movie similar to how Marvel did with avengers. A number of characters: ROB, Mr Game & Watch and Olimar/Pikmin made their cameos, and I suspect they’re doing a “Mario Cast + 1 Nintendo Guest” (Donkey Kong in the first movie, Starfox in this), to eventually build to this.
Also the next movie is maybe building to Super Mario Land with the appearance of Daisy in the post credits scene, and they seem to play Bowser as a regular villain rather than the big baddie of this film. So maybe Tatanga? Who knows!
Other than that, I watched a bit more of Race Across the World Season 6, adding to places I want to visit.
I also have been catching up on reading the last 3 episodes of Amiga/Pixel Addict as well, as I’ve been behind for ages.
What is upcoming?
A relatively busy week. We’re having another cinema date Wednesday as we’re watching Project Hail Mary, as well as spending time with each other at the weekend for a cheeky date night. Cricket season may get underway tomorrow as I’ve been picked to play a match in the midweek league, so going to look forward to that. Other than that, mixing work, pleasure and a chiropodist appointment!
