What I have been upto?
This week I threw myself back into work. There was a bit of a feeling of being overwhelmed towards the latter end of the week, and I’ve got one new client onboarded, a proposal written over the weekend, and a number of meetings. Friday afternoon was a bit of chaotic moment as I felt a lot of clients were just getting to writing back to me.
I did do some game development. I’ve been working on two projects.
One of my projects I’ve had an idea of a circular shooter. I found a sprite rotation routine by freds72 that I wanted to play with. I was hoping to get it working as intended but I had a bit of time, so I managed to get some shooting working with some simple enemies. It was a modified version of the asteroids routine he had, but switched in, and I removed the plane work.
I had to change the bullet starting point, based on where the character is located, but it’s working pretty well. After 1 day, I got some simple collision working. I’m happy with my progress so far.

Cricket started with the first winter nets, and I’m relatively happy with my start. Bowling was a bit erratic but it usually is. It was the first week so it was largely dusting off the cobwebs. There was also an AGM. I put my name into the hat for third team vice captain. I’m not sure if I’ll get it, but registered an interest for it.

I also did the Wythenshawe Parkrun on Saturday. I didn’t have the best night sleep on Friday, but I managed a time under 35 minutes which is my base level goal. Nice parkrun, but it’s freezing! My beard froze!

What I have been enjoying?
The majority of this week has been watching the UK Traitors, I’m one episode behind the live recording at the time of writing and it’s really good. Really enjoying the chaotic nature of the current traitors!
I also watched a lot of the Awesome Games Done Quick speedrunning event. It’s one of the things that takes the edge off the first week of January. I enjoyed the usual runs – the Super Mario World runs, and the Super Metroid ones. There’s one I also enjoyed which is outside my usual wheel of interest: the Super Mario 64 Relay Run.
Probably because of this, as well as some of the folks from The Retro Ayslum discord playing it, I picked up Super Mario 64 again. It’s not one of my favourite games, but I’m needing a game to play in my lounge. I’ve never beaten it, nor even gone close, but I thought I’d give it another go.
What is upcoming?
It’s a bit of a hectic week this week, with lots of moving parts. A largely full week (with the first Dwi’n Rhys update and Newsletter going out this week – please subscribe to the latter!), the first MWUG of 2026 is also taking place this week.
As well as the usual parkrun and cricket, I’ve also got a podiatrist appointment, which I’m a bit worried about. I may also join The Firkin 5k run for January. There’s also a business meeting within Newton-le-Willows as well, which I may do on Thursday. We’ll see, could be a busy day that day!
